What Are Wax Melts
And do you need one?
Ever walked into someone's home and smelled fresh waffles, with not a waffle in sight? There's a good chance a wax melt was behind it.
Wax melts are one of the easiest ways to make your home smell great. They're also a bit of a mystery if you've never tried one, so here's the quick rundown.

So, what is a wax melt?
A wax melt is a small piece of scented wax with no wick. Think of it as a candle without the string. Instead of lighting it, you warm it in a wax melter until it turns liquid and the fragrance drifts through the room.
Using one is about as simple as it sounds:
- Place one piece of wax in your melter.
- Switch on the heat. Some melters use a tealight, others plug in.
- Let it melt and enjoy the scent.
- Once the scent has faded, let the wax cool completely, then lift it out.
That's it. No wick to trim, and no special skills required.
At KAJO, we use natural waxes like soy, coconut and beeswax, and most of our fragrances are made in France. Everything is then made here in Finland in small batches.
How do they compare to other scent products?
The short answer: wax melts win on variety and control, while other products win in their own moments.
| Product | Best for | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Wax melts | Long-lasting, atmospheric and allows switching scents whenever you like | You need a melter |
| Scented candles | A real glow and atmosphere | You usually finish one scent before moving on |
| Reed diffusers | A quiet, steady scent in a hallway or bathroom | Always on, with no way to turn it up or down |
| Room sprays | A quick refresh before guests arrive | Fades fast |
| Plug-in fresheners | Set-and-forget scent | Not much to look at |
We love candles, obviously. Nothing beats a real flame at a dinner table. Think of melts as the candle's more flexible friend: the candle sets the mood, and the melt lets you change the scent as often as you change your mind.
One easy mix-up is worth clearing up. Our aroma sachets are also made of scented wax, but they're made for wardrobes and drawers. Sachets should never be melted or heated, so keep those away from your melter.

Why would you want one?
You get to change your mind. Ember Wine on Friday night, Vanilla Waffle on Sunday morning. Your home can smell however you feel that day.
The scent fills the room. One of our customers was surprised by how quickly the scent spread through her whole home.
A little goes a long way. Each box holds 100 g of wax, and you only use one piece at a time. As another customer put it, one small piece lasts a really long time.
The melter is part of your decor. A nice ceramic melter looks good on a shelf, even when it's off.
They make an easy gift. Pick a scent and you're done. Our melts come gift-boxed, so there's no wrapping to worry about.

A few good-to-knows
Melted wax gets hot, so a little common sense goes a long way:
- Keep your melter on a stable, heat-safe surface, out of reach of kids and pets.
- Don't move it while the wax is liquid.
- If your melter uses a tealight, treat it like any open flame and never leave it unattended.
- Let the wax cool completely before you take it out.
